VICTORYA JUBILE MEN'S HOSTEL

The Government Arts College (Autonomous), Kumbakonam known as the Cambridge of south India is one among the oldest Indian educational Institutions. It was started in 1854, situated on the banks of Cauvery, Kumbakonam, Thanjavur District, Tamilnadu.
            Victorya Jubile Hostel was formed by construction committee in 1882. But this committee was allocate the fund for Rs. In 61,000/- . This hostel was constructed in 1905. The Britten Prince Victoriya was provided this amount to construct this hostel. In this Hostel student stayed capacity was 100. Meanwhile, it was since that the 1988 – 1989 is directly undertaken by the Government of Collegiate education of Tamilnadu. According to PWD recommendation, this hostel has been damaged. Due to this reason, here unable to stay students. So that, for the student welfare the Tamilnadu Government have been constructed a new building in 2013. This Hostel is located at east side of the College campus. The V.J. Men’s Hostel is run by the College administration and the student staying capacity is 60.
            The V.J. Men’s hostel is under the control of Principal Dr.K.Durairasan, warden of Hostel, and T.Thamizhvanan, Deputy Warden, Assistant Professor of Economics, Government Arts College (Autonomous), Kumbakonam.

Admission Details

            The following fees must be paid on admission to the hostel,

  • Application cost of Rs.50/-
  • Caution deposit Rs. 6,000/-
  • Dividing system of food charge.

Selection criteria of applicant

  • Good academic performance
  • More than 50 km distance
  • Good conduct of the students
  • Concern department HOD’s forward letter

Special concision

  • SC / ST students are getting to free Hostel loan facility.
  • Other than students are get to scholarship amount hike.

            V.J. Hostel committee is consisting of the following members.

The team members will meet according to the situation and make important decisions in the interest of the students.


Hostel Discipline

  • Any student who is unable to attend class due to ill health or for any other reason must obtain written permission from the Warden.
  • Visitors are not allowed to enter the hostel except with the permission of the warden. Day scholars are not allowed into the hostel.
  • Visitors who wish to meet their wards should write their names in the register maintained for them at the entrance.
  • Students must return to the Hostel on the appointed day after the term holidays.
  • Damage done to any Hostel property or articles shall be paid for, by the student.
  • Students are advised not to keep large amounts of money or valuables in their rooms and should keep their belongings secure. The Warden will not be responsible for any loss incurred by the students.
  • Students are strictly forbidden to take lifts from strangers, even when in a group.
  • Any electronic/electric gadget is prohibited.

Anti-Ragging
            In accordance with UGC norms, ragging in any form is strictly forbidden. Any student found guilty of ragging in the Hostel will face cancellation of admission / suspension from the College / Hostel, and a fine of Rs. 25, 000/-.
